Olney Girls Taster Session

The girls held an open recruitment session on Sunday to show rugby to any interested girls in the area. We were joined by our friends from Bedford for a combined session.
There was an excellent turnout of over 30 girls, including 11 players new to girls rugby with a variety of ages and experience levels. All the new players showed great commitment and quite a lot of skill. The weather was absolutely foul, with a 10 minute hailstorm that drew blood. As we have come to expect the players “girled up” and carried on regardless. At this stage last year we had 2 players in the U11s which shows the progress the team has made.
Although we didn’t get as much done as we’d hoped due to the conditions, all the girls had a go at tackling and a game of touch, showing excellent development. We also managed to have a useful shakedown in preparation for the three tournaments we have in April.
The girls play on Sundays, generally at 12.30, and train on Wednesday evenings at 6.30. We will be holding another taster session in early July and the new season will begin in early September. Olney will be offering rugby for girls in years 7/8/9/10 from September and we are also able to arrange team rugby for girls in years 5/6 if necessary. Girls outside these years are welcome to contact the coaching team, as our local network means that we can find rugby for girls in most age groups. All coaching staff are DRB checked.
