Match Report – East Midlands RFU League One
Olney RFC Colts 50 – 7 Old Northamptonians RFC Academy
Date: Saturday 8th November 2025
Kick Off: 1415hrs
First Half
The Olney Colts came into this league fixture off the back of two strong friendlies — scoring over 100 points and conceding less than 25. The sun came out to greet both sides at kick-off, and Olney started with clear intent.
Ronan Perkins received the kick-off, fed Charlie Constantine, and the tone was set immediately as Constantine crashed through the ONs defence with a thunderous carry. Captain Beau Stenson then kicked smartly to touch, just short of the ONs 22m line.
Olney’s defensive lineout pressure was immense from the start — Perkins cutting down the opposition scrumhalf and forcing a knock-on. Scrum Olney, in a dangerous position. From the set piece, Olney stacked the blindside and attacked through Maxton Hubbard, who found Ade Adebayo, dancing and jinking his way past multiple defenders deep into the 22. Quick, sharp shape followed — Will Light running a hard line, tipping to Stenson, who linked with Perkins on a hard cut back against the grain. He powered through five defenders with trademark determination. Olney 5 – 0 ONs.
ONs kicked long from the restart, but straight to the wrong man — Perkins again — who charged 30m up field before Stenson kicked deep into the ONs half. The chase from Adebayo and Darragh Fitzgerald was excellent, but a forward pass stopped the move.
From there, Olney stole the next ONs lineout through Jacob Reed. The ball was moved crisply through Alex Bickers to Harry Leach, back from concussion, who pulled it out the back to Stenson. A slick skip pass found Joe Grainger on the left wing — and with pace to burn, he stormed past two defenders to score. Olney 12 – 0 ONs (Extras: Stenson).
Olney were relentless. From the restart, Hubbard, Mutuma, and Down each smashed through ONs defenders. The ball moved beautifully from Bickers to Leach, Stenson, and Adebayo, who drew defenders before Tyler Finch went over in the corner. Olney 31 – 0 ONs (Extras: Stenson).
A rare lapse allowed ONs their first try after a bouncing kick sat up kindly for their 12, but Olney struck back immediately — Mahon and Mutuma hammering runners, forcing turnovers, and setting the platform for a sweeping move finished by Down. Half Time: Olney 38 – 7 ONs.
Second Half
After a two-minute silence for Remembrance Day — impeccably observed — the second half began with ONs in possession. Olney’s Reed stole a turnover, and Perkins tapped quickly, chipping delightfully for Josh Knight to gather and score his third try in two games. Olney 45 – 7 ONs.
Reed again took the next restart cleanly, and Olney drove into ONs territory through Hubbard and Lowe. A monster 60m clearance from Stenson gave Olney territory, and from the ensuing lineout, they executed superbly. Crisp hands through Leach, Stenson, Finch, and Light found Perkins, who powered over again. Olney 50 – 7 ONs (Extras: Stenson).
The final quarter saw more dominance. Reed’s aerial control continued, Hubbard kept punching holes, and Archie German — showing flashes of his brother Jo’s footwork — came close to scoring himself. Eventually Lowe crossed for Olney’s ninth try, converted by Stenson.
ONs grabbed a late consolation, but this was a one-sided contest from start to finish.

Post-Match Reaction
Captain Beau Stenson:
“Coming into the game, we knew it would be tough — we’d missed out by just a few points in previous years. We talked about Olney vs ONs being an occasion to get excited for, and the boys showed that from the first whistle.
Three unanswered tries in the first 15 minutes — we looked unstoppable. A lucky bounce gave them their first try, but from then on it was all Olney.
Looking back, that was the best our attack has functioned all year, which is exciting heading into another big game vs Harpenden in the National Colts Cup on Sunday.”
Man of the Match:
Jacob Reed – Everywhere in defence and attack. A complete performance from Reedy. ?
