Olney Ladies managed a bonus point win with the last play of the game against a competitive Lutterworth side despite a lacklustre performance early on.
The game started well with prop Fleur Shakespeare gathering the kick off and making good ground into opposition territory. However sloppy play at the ruck, which along with poor passing, was to hamper the home sides efforts all afternoon, saw possession given away allowing Lutterworth to counter.

Play was mainly confined to the middle of the pitch with mistakes from both sides and strong tackling foiling any attacking intent. Eventually however the Olney backs managed to get the ball through the hands allowing left winger Steph Lynes to out-pace her opposite number to touch down in the corner. Jen Miles missed the conversion but minutes later after Olney managed to put some sustained pressure on the Lutterworth line and Miles jinked her way through the defence for a classy solo try. Once again the conversion was missed but with a 10 nil lead half way through the first half it looked like Olney were eventually waking up.

Lutterworth capitalised on Olney errors and as a result found themselves camped on the home sides 22. Initially the defence held but a strong run and missed tackles allowed Lutterworth to open their account. Olney responded just before half time with a converted try by centre Leanne Sargent taking them into the break with a 17-5 lead.

As the 2nd half progressed Olney were still unable to control the game despite parity in the scrum and Bobbie Jenkins stealing several Lutterworth line-outs. Olney had to defend really well to keep out a Lutterworth side that could smell the possibility of an upset. The home side seemed to get their form back however, and with Jen Miles kicking into the opposition half, Olney regained possession and piled on the pressure. It told when a penalty try was awarded after Miles was prevented from scoring by a high tackle. A quick conversion and Olney stormed back from the restart, held up over the line. With the last play of the game, Olney secured a scrum, sucked in the defence and allowed space for Sargeant to scamper over the line for a dramatic bonus point try.

With one game of the season left, Olney and Bletchley are locked at the top of the table on 54 points each - Olney just on top with a points difference of just 2 more than their rivals.
