Olney Ladies entertained an above strength Old Leamingtonians team on Sunday for their final game of the season. With Olney at the top of the table on points difference and the visitors sitting 3rd a tough game was in prospect. Olney started off at a rate of knots and soon had Leams defending desperately. This was really to be the story of the first half. Old Leams had the odd foray into Olney territory but the home side put in their best half of the season to score 3 well worked tries through fly half Jen Miles, No 8 Jen Micklewright and flanker Bobby Jenkins.

With Jenkins ruling the line out and a strong carrying performance from the forwards the Olney backs had plenty of ball to work with and full back Charlotte Armitage was able to come into the line at will to slice through the visitors defence. Olney led 19 – 0 at half time and the second half carried on very much the same way, although as tiredness set it, handling errors prevented the Olney side from adding to the score line. Leams didn’t really look like scoring, their centre looking their only threat, but she did eventually break through to score under the posts. Olney showed great character though and hit back almost immediately with full back Charlotte Armitage diving over in the corner. Olney strived to get the bonus point try that their performance merited, but on this occasion they fell just
short.

Despite that, the game wraps up a successful season with 13 league wins and only 1 defeat – the perfect way for team stalwarts Amanda Cornish (played for 13 years at Olney) and Clair Swallow (played for 17 years at Olney) to hang up their boots!
