OLNEY vs. MARKET BOSWORTH Sat. 29th. Sep 2018
Olney welcomed Market Bosworth to the Rec. on Saturday on an afternoon ideal for playing and watching. The visitors kicked off and Olney counter attacked. A knock on gave Bosworth put in at a scrum that they won and kicked to touch. Olney won the lineout and forwards combined with backs to take play to the visitor's goal line. They forced over but the ref. declared the ball 'held up'. Olney won the ball at the scrum and fed the backs who moved it to Harry James, on the wing, who scored with a try in the corner. Jordan Letts was just off target with his conversion attempt and Olney went ahead after 5 mins. Olney 5, Mkt. Bosworth 0.
Bosworth kicked off and Olney, receiving, counter attacked but conceded a scrum on their 10 m. line. The visitors kicked for territory and won the ball with the added advantage of a penalty for 'offside'. They ran the ball and gained another lineout on the home 5m. line. Winning the ball they managed to force over in the corner, the try was scored by Joe Randon but not converted, to even the score at; Olney 5, Mkt. Bosworth 5. ( 12 mins.)
The restart kick was returned to the halfway line and Olney's forwards won lineout ball, they attacked initially in the forwards to suck in the visitor's defence. The ball was released to the backs and James scored his second try with a strong run down the right wing. The conversion attempt was again just short. Olney 10 , Mkt. Bosworth 5. (15 mins)
The visitors kicked off and the ball went into touch off a defender. Bosworth won lineout ball but upset their attack being penalised for an infringement on the deck following a tackle. The kick gave the home forwards a lineout on Bosworth's '22' , they won the ball and both packs were engaged midfield. Another penalty gave Olney a lineout some 30m. into their opposition's half. They opted to catch and drive, setting Freddie Betteridge on a charge, splitting the visitor's defence and touching down under the posts. Letts added the conversion. ( 24 mins. on the clock). Olney 17, Mkt. Bosworth 5.
Olney were in top gear now and they enjoyed a period when they had most of the possession. The visitor's forwards showed some determined defence and were able to deny possession turning into points. Olney made the breakthrough when they were awarded a penalty, kicked to touch for a lineout on Bosworth's 5m. line. Olney won the ball, the forwards fed the backline and slick passing put in James for another touchdown, converted by Letts. Olney 24, Mkt. Bosworth 5. ( 29 mins.).
Bosworth kicked off for the restart and Olney ran the ball on the counter attack and kicked through to the Visitor's goal line. The ball was carried over into the in goal area and Olney won a penalty 5m. out. Somehow they lost possession and Bosworth were able to clear their line, they were awarded a penalty and the referee added '10' for some unnecessary commentary. Bosworth kicked long and followed up . A handling error gave the home side put in at a scrum on halfway. The visitors were penalised and Olney ran the ball their backs linked up and Betteridge at '8' joined in to score under the posts, converted by Letts. Olney 31, Mkt. Bosworth 5. The ref. called half time!

Olney kicked off for the second half and Bosworth kicked for touch. The kick was short of the line but a knock on gave them a scrum on Olney's 10m line. The put in wasn't straight so the advantage went to the home side. Winning the ball the forwards, and backs, joined in a passing move culminating in Letts, at '10' scoring wide out. He failed to add the conversion and the score moved on to Olney 36, Mkt. Bosworth 5. (5 mins. on the clock incl. timeout ).
The restart resulted in Bosworth gaining a lineout on the home 10m. line. Olney won the ball and set up an attack by the forwards, they shipped the ball to the backs and it ended in touch for a lineout to the visitors inside their own '22'. Olney managed to force the ball carrier over the touch line to have the lineout throw in their favour. They caught and drove the ball for prop forward Graham Smith to score an unconverted try. Olney 41, Mkt. Bosworth 5. (13 mins.)
Bosworth kicked long for the restart, the ball going 'dead' giving Olney a '22' drop out. The visitors counter attacked but conceded a penalty, this one also moved on '10' ! The ball was kicked to touch for a lineout won by Olney, who used their backline but were pulled up for a forward pass . This gave put in at the scrum to Bosworth who won the ball and foiled the Olney defence to score a try by Rick Wickway, converted by Rich Harris. Olney 41, Mkt. Bosworth 12. (23 mins.).
Olney kicked off and followed up to force a penalty for 'offside' in the Bosworth '22' . They ran the ball but failed to penetrate the visitor's defence bolstered no doubt by their success in making double figures. Olney changed their tiring forwards David Rainbow and Mark Austin leaving the field Taylor French and Chris Sumner -Smith going on. Awarded a penalty Bosworth ran the ball and followed up with a kick to touch that gave Olney a lineout on their 5m. line. The ball was knocked on resulting in a scrum, to Bosworth who produced a pushover try for Will Clark, converted by Rich Harris. Olney 41, Mkt. Bosworth 19. (36 mins.)
This inspired more changes to the Olney line up Jim Osborn being replaced by David Rainbow. Olney needed to reverse the trend and they did. Olney knocked on to give a scrum to Bosworth between the home 10/22m. lines. The visitors won the ball and attacked in their threes. A timely interception by Olney set up Euan Irwin for a try, not converted. Olney 46, Mkt. Bosworth 19. (42 mins.). Brendon Burke came on for Jordan Letts.
The final curtain came down following possession from the restart kick by Olney's three's , joined by No. 8 Freddie Betteridge, who added another try. Olney 51, Mkt. Bosworth 19
