It was a brilliant opportunity last night, where 35 players got the chance to put on the shirt and represent the club. On top of that it was great to see them play after 14 months without a game, which included so many players returning from previous seasons, players that have come through our mini and juniors and also players that are new to the club.
Out of the 35 players involved, 23 of them had come through the M&J section at the club. Which is something everyone involved should be hugely proud of!
When the new coaching team of Ross and Will took over they put a lot of emphasis on developing the players skill sets both sides of the ball. They speak a lot around playing to space and moving the ball in attack and getting our width & applying pressure in defence.
ONs are one of, if not the best sides in the area and we wanted to test ourselves against the best.
The pleasing thing for us was that the boys showed real enthusiasm to go and move the ball in attack and a huge desire to defend to get the ball back.
We want Olney to be the most exciting and enjoyable place to play and watch rugby in the East Midlands, so we hope all players involved & supporters that were there felt that we are on the right path to getting there.
Thanks must go to ONs for making the trip over, we wish them all the best for next year & hope their 7 that sustained the nasty injury is okay.
Thanks to Jeff Bowden for the photos !
