Roy’s biggest legacy at the club though was ensuring the club bought ‘Doffs Field’ when the opportunity arose. Along with his son, Duncan, Roy purchased the field, and then made it possible for the rugby club to purchase the field from them. This was only possible due to the Mason families financial generosity, and Roy’s desire that the rugby club would have pitches to the front of their clubhouse. He was also very keen that the other sporting clubs in the town benefited from this project, and it did indeed give all the other clubs more space on the recreation ground, and also the fishing club the rights to the river bank.

For those involved with Olney RFC around this time, it was a very exciting time for the club, and the benefit now is that we have some of the best pitches and facilities in junior rugby in the country. For this, the club will always be very grateful and indebted to Roy.

Roys funeral will take place at 2pm on Monday 16th January 2023 at the church of St Peter & St Paul, Newport Pagnell, followed by a private family burial.
