Paul Barrick

Olney RFC Publicity8 Apr - 16:05

...RIP

It is with great sadness, we announce that Paul Barrick passed away peacefully on 26th March, aged 65.

Paul was a tough no nonsense hooker who played for the First XV for many seasons in the 1980’s. Not the tallest of hookers, he would be quite happy to hook the ball back with his head!

He represented Bucks at Under 21 level in the late 1970’s and then was a regular in the 1stXV for many seasons. He was in the team that won the North Bucks shield in 1982.

He played at a time when the hooker had two jobs, hooking the ball at the scrum and throwing in at the lineout. Anything else was a bonus! He came from the school that would quite happily have a couple of pints before the game (obligatory) and would not list training as one of his pleasures!

A great tourist and a very tough opponent. All those that played alongside him will have some great memories. RIP Recko.

A graveside service takes place at Olney Cemetery on Tuesday 15th April 2025 at 3pm. Paul’s family and friends are very welcome to attend so that they can celebrate his life.

The club would like to extend its condolences to his family and friends.
