Enjoyable season for the Girls team

Olney Girls celebrated the end of their first season back with a presentation afternoon in, finally, some sunshine!

The review of the season showed some great tries, famous victories, tough defeats and excellent teamwork. Most importantly, a whole load of enjoyment for the whole squad.

There was special mention for the 4 girls who joined towards the end of the season. Issy played up a year and looked totally at home, Mia brought some tough running to the pack, Caelyn scored a try on debut and Madeleine, having trained excellently, was robbed of a debut by the flu.

The focus was rightly on the “Originals”, 11 girls who played from September to May. Jess, the barnstorming captain and leader in all aspects plus Lottie, support runner extraordinaire. Molly striding away for tries and selling monster dummies, Eva the speedster in midfield and Bethany, materialising in defence just when a try seemed certain. Charlie, whose hooking won us attacking ball by the bucketload and Hattie her partner in the front row, popping up when required and always positively vocal. Ella, whose berserk 10 minutes against Aylesbury remains a season highlight. Hollie a born flanker who knew no fear but also brought skill and Amma, surely one of the best players seen over the season. Last but not least the fullback Mimi, the silent assassin who brought so much in attack.

All the girls were presented with a memento of the season. In terms of awards, the winners were:

Club player of the year - Jess, who contributed so much on and off the pitch, both when we won and when times were tougher

New player of the year - Amma, who in her debut season put a marker down for the rest of the League

Player of the year - Mimi, whose defensive grit, attacking flair and skillful kicking made a huge contribution to the team.

Thanks also to John and Rob for their excellent and selfless coaching, which took the squad forward in leaps and bounds and huge thanks to Jacquie for all her work on the admin side.
