...an update on whats going on at the club

Whilst we might not be able to play rugby currently, we aren’t standing still at the club and we have several projects underway to improve the facilities for players, members and supporters alike.

Below is a quick run-through of them:

1. Changing room refurb
Various works to the changing facilities including refurbishing the baths and showers to improve them for both home and visiting players

2. Stand
We have submitted an application to MK Council (20/00492/FUL) for a 50 seat stand

3. Changing Room Extension
We have submitted an application to MK Council (20/01091/FUL) to extend the club to provide 2 self-contained uni-sex changing rooms.
As members will be aware, the need for additional changing rooms has been an issue for the club for some time. Changing room space has been at a premium and we have struggled to remain compliant with current safeguarding regulations. The club has grown with Ladies and girls teams, over 450 Mini & Junior members on Sunday mornings, all in addition to the adult men’s teams. We are expected to provide changing rooms, with their own shower and toilet facilities, that can be separated from the other changing areas for under 18s and the Ladies and girls teams.

4. Parking
We have submitted an application to MK Council (20/01092/FUL) to provide parking spaces on the Rugby Club land. The problem with parking along East Street, down Austen Avenue and into Carey Way is something we are only too aware of and the aim of this application is to alleviate some of these issues.

It mainly involves using the space between the wooden fence and the top of Doffs field, with access from Austen Avenue. It will provide an additional 50 spaces. It is envisaged that the main use would be at weekends or for town events and otherwise will remain locked during the week but no restriction to pedestrian access.

Attached is the letter that was distributed to residents in proximity to the club (Austen Avenue, Carey Way (part) and East Street (between Austen Avenue and car park entrance))

In addition, we are looking at ways of lowering the energy impact of the Club – be that energy consumption or energy generation. We are looking at the insulation of the beer cellar as well as the potential installation of Solar panels and a ground source heat pump.

Not all of these plans are fully funded currently, and their completion will be based on receipt of successful grants or fund raising. Whilst the Club is in a financially healthy position, as you can imagine, with the Club having been closed since March and with no May Ball or 7s tournament some of these projects may take longer to complete than first hoped.

We can’t wait to welcome you back to the, improved, club
