A special morning for Olney RFC Girls
We had the enormous privilege of welcoming Georgia Brock and Alex Matthews to Olney RFC to lead a special training session for girls going into Years 5, 6, 7 and 8... and they were absolutely brilliant!
Georgia and Alex have both represented the Red Roses and currently play for Gloucester Hartpury, competing at the very highest level of the game, winning three consecutive PWR titles. It was even more meaningful, with Georgia back at the club where her own rugby journey began.
From the start, Georgia and Alex threw themselves into the session, coaching, encouraging, answering questions and making sure the girls had plenty of fun along the way.
For our young players, the chance to train with two outstanding women's rugby players was incredibly special. There is something powerful about girls being able to look at elite sportswomen and think: “That could be me.”
“Learning from women at the very pinnacle of rugby was incredibly powerful. It showed my daughter that anything is possible, on or off the pitch.” Olney RFC Girls Parent
The girls came away smiling, inspired and ready for plenty more rugby. They weren’t the only ones to benefit either, with our coaches picking up a few new ideas and some exciting new skill zones for future sessions.
We continued the morning with a game of rugby rounders, bringing together the girls, their families, members of the Olney RFC women’s team and others from across the club, a great reflection of the inclusive, connected rugby community we are building.
A huge thank you to Georgia and Alex for being so generous with their time and such fantastic role models for our players.
This season also marks a significant milestone for the club, with the re-established U12 girls’ team, for players in Years 6 and 7, preparing for its inaugural season. Their first fixture is in September 2026, with matches on Sundays throughout the season.
Our ambition is for Olney RFC to become the club of choice for women’s and girls’ rugby across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. At the heart of that is a simple belief, there is a place for everyone on a rugby pitch.
If your daughter would like to join the team, or simply give rugby a try, we run a Girls’ Club training session on Tuesday evenings, with players across multiple age groups.
We’d love more girls and women to join us on the journey.
