Yesterday, Saturday 17th September, was another great day in our Club’s history – the opening of new changing rooms.
Representatives from the Ladies, Girls, Colts and Juniors joined members of the Executive committee, Development committee and Club members at the official opening. Tom Salsbury, Club President marked the occasion with the ‘cutting of the ribbon’. In his opening remarks, Tom said “This is a fantastic facility that further enhances what we have at the Club. It allows us to host different genders and age groups at the same time.” He then went on to thank the members of the Development Committee (especially Basher) for all their hard work in achieving this fantastic facility.
The need for additional changing rooms has been an issue for the club for some time. Considerable growth in playing numbers over recent years has meant changing room space has been at a premium, especially on busy weekends when Mens, Ladies, Girls and Junior teams have all required the facilities.
The new changing rooms, each with their own shower and toilet facilities, are completely separated from the other changing areas – ensuring safeguarding requirements can be met.
Jen Micklewright, the Ladies Captain, added “The new changing rooms will give the Ladies team the opportunity to play fixtures on Saturdays which will not only enhance the exposure of the ladies game in the town, but also allow us to enjoy the after-match experience with the rest of the club.”
The changing rooms are a major investment in the future of the game at the Club – it doesn’t matter if you are an U6 or a member of the men’s 1st XV, our aim is to provide every member of the Club with the facilities to enable them to get the most from their rugby
The Club would also like to thank:
Olney Town Council - for support and understanding in allowing the development on the land the Club leases from them.
The RFU for the loan that enables us to undertake the work.
