6. Girls

From season 2022/23, girls’ age bands will move from the current U13, U15, U18 to an U12s age band, and two-year age bands at U14, at U16 and at U18.

U11 or Year Six girls will be able to either continue to play U11 mixed rugby; play girls only U11 rugby; or play U12s girls’ rugby, following appropriate sign-off by parents and coaches. In addition, there will no longer be a three-year U18 age band.

These developments are aimed at supporting player welfare, with less scope for mismatches in terms of age and physical and mental development.

The changes reflect feedback and create age bandings providing a structure that supports and encourages girls to play rugby and the growth of the age grade girls' game. They also provide equity in the rules of play with the boys’ game, allowing the playing development journey to be the same.

Olney Rugby Club is proud of its successful and growing Minis & Juniors section and are always keen to welcome new players of all genders, backgrounds, abilities and ages. We are now recruiting for u12 girls for the upcoming season.

If your daughter is in school Year 7 from September and interested in having a go at rugby then this is the place to be! Please note this is the first age group of girls only rugby - U12 boys are a completely separate team.

You would be joining one of the best clubs in the country as, in 2016, the RFU awarded us the “BEST” Mini and Junior’s club plus in 2020 the Club was also awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services, something we are extremely proud of.

All new players are invited to 3 FREE taster sessions to see if rugby is for you before you join the club for the upcoming season.

No previous experience needed. Our aim is to play open, expansive rugby, develop all the player’s skill levels & have a great deal of fun along the way.

All coaches are qualified in First Aid and are DBS checked
We play matches or train on Sunday mornings, starting at 10:00 from August onwards.
