The Olney Sevens
We welcome Pat Jerram as Head Coach this season, Pat is very well qualified, and we wish him all the best in his new role. Ross will continue his great work as Assistant Coach. We wish Chris Parnham, and the First XV continued success and improvement this season, it is excellent that Chris resumes as Captain, to add to what he has already achieved and to offer continuity in leadership of the First XV squad. Partly due to our Colts rugby now being under 18 rather than under 19, and in recognition of the fact that we need to nurture and retain our players produced by our Mini, Junior and Colts sections, our Second XV will now be operating as a development squad. Dave Terry will Captain the side with Richard Walker as Vice Captain. Yes, we know they are both old enough to be a Colts Father, but the intention is to have a mix of experience and youth in the squad. Sean Wright did a great job last year as Captain of the Second XV, during a difficult season which was hampered by injuries, including Sean himself breaking his leg towards the end of the season. We hope to see Sean back on the pitch very soon. We would like to thank Matt Rawlinson and Lloyd Warne for their hard work in running the 3rd team last season, and welcome Little and Large, Pete Donavon and Marcus Carrington, as this seasons Captain and Vice Captain. Once again we are fortunate to have Frank Livesey and Graham Holbrook Managing and Coaching the Colts set up. It is good to see the revival of the Ladies Team, and we wish them well this season. The backbone of any successful team is strength in depth. We must continue to field at least three senior teams and a Colts squad, with a view to putting as many players in Olney colours as possible. There is not a quick fix to the amount of young players lost to the game, but if we continue to invest our time in coaching and encouraging new and existing players at all levels, I am sure we can expand on what is already a great club to be a part of. Please remember this is YOUR club, any help and support is always appreciated. Good luck to all teams this season.
