Looking to expand for 2011 |
Thank you
I pass on the Club's thanks for another great Seven's tournament. It was both efficient and well organised, running like clockwork (at least from the spectators point of view!). This year saw another step up in the quality of the rugby and I believe attendance too, proving that this is becoming a very popular and established day on the rugby calendar.
Again, a huge vote of thanks to the organisers and Data Re our sponsors, and the army of volunteers who helped out making this all possible.
I am looking forward to next year already when in our 5th year, we can expand the event further and still have a great social day out for players and spectators alike.
Cheers

OLNEY RUGBY 7'S 2009.
Saturday 4th July saw the third successful 7's Tournament at Olney RFC. With twenty teams competing in the tournament, and having travelled from as far as Wales it was no surprise that some players chose to camp and benefit from Olney's superb facilities on the Friday evening prior to the event in addition to the Saturday after a hard day of Rugby.
The tournament was well organised and enjoyed by all with the overall results as below;
Wooden Spoon; Kimco Barbarians 14 - Olney Old Boys 0
Plate Final; Old Berkhamstedians 40 - Daventry 5
Shield Final; British Heart Foundation 19 - Black Knights 12 A very close and enjoyable final to end a great Tournament.
There was several stalls selling Rugby clothing etc, with a Bouncy castle and face paints for children along with the food/drinks/icecreams on sale. With the days success continuing into the evening with teams and spectators enjoying the live music in the Clubhouse.
A huge thanks must go to all those involved in the Olney 7's, as with everything at Olney it is run mainly by volunteers and you should all be proud of such an event. We look forward to July 2010 for the next Olney 7's and hope you will join us again on our new pitches which looked superb for their unofficial opening a this years 7's.

Olney Rugby 7s 2008
Another fantastic day of rugby saw 20 teams battle it out in the Shield, Plate and wooden spoon competitions at Olney Rugby Club. Once again the weather was kind to us, and this year the club also put on a brilliant evening event with live music and a hog roast, making full use of the newly refurbished club bar.

A thrilling Shield final saw last year's title holders, the Lady Rohesia Boat Club, take on new London outfit, Southern Cross. Both teams put in their all in to make the last game of the day a show-stopping affair. Southern Cross' early dominance was challenged in the second half with a resurgence from Lady Rohesia - resulting in the game going to sudden death. The climatic finish came with a powerful dive over the line from Southern Cross, giving the newcomers the 2008 crown!
In the Plate, the Valley Vipers took on the Bedfordshire Tigers. The Welsh Viper side looked to be the favourites early on, but immensely impressive rugby from the young Tigers side outshone the Valley boys.

A MASSIVE thank you goes to all of the volunteers who worked hard to make the 7s tournament happen. A special mention must go to our ball boys from Olney RFC junior section who worked tirelessly throughout the day to keep the games running. Thanks guys!
