Group Organisation and Structure
Main Coaches: Simon Christian, Aiden Chapman, Fraser Bull and Linda Rance
Admin, Fixer & Bacon Roll Stall Hero: Claire Chapman
Coaches targets for the group
Our priority for all the children in the under 7's is that they enjoy themselves and have fun. We do this by trying to mix up our sessions with a combination of matches, skills practice and games.
We want all the players to develop their skills to prepare them for moving up the age groups as well as to give them a sense of achievement that they are improving.
We all believe that for the players, winning matches is important and so for some tournaments we intend to pick and field the strongest teams that we can. For most matches and practices however, we mix up the teams as the less experienced players gain most from playing along side the more experienced ones.
To encourage all players each week we award the Johnny Wilkinson cup to the two players who have specifically made most effort or improvement that week or the previous weeks. We tell the group why they have particularly deserved the cup and they must go through the ritual of "Kiss it! Kiss it!, where they must kiss the cup and hold it aloft in front of their team mates. In this way we feel it is clear to all the players that it is effort that is rewarded and not scoring the most tries.
Practices and Matches
We are very lucky at Olney with the large amount of space that the Under 7's have to play in, although it is a brisk walk from the club house. This enables us to accomodate the large group of players that we have in the under 7's. Unfortunately, most of the teams that we play are not so well off for space and numbers. To counteract this we try to have home games with two other teams but it is inevitable that there are very few occassions during the season where all the players can travel away en-mass. When one or two teams are travelling away we are fortunate that we have sufficient players and coaches to be able to provide meaningful and productive sessions at Olney for those who happen to be not selected that week.
Please see the link above to the fixtures list
We aim to start all matches and practices at 10.30am when playing at home.
New players
We are always happy to welcome new players. If anyone is interested in playing then all you need to do is email schristian@talktalk.net to check when we are playing or practicing at home next and come along. For any parents who are not sure whether their child will enjoy it we are happy for them to come along for a couple of weeks before they comit to becoming members of the club. All players must become members of the club which costs £20 and the parents must become social members of ORFC to enable them to use the facilities available which costs £5.
Players are only eligable to play in matches after they have reached their 6th birthday, we do have players that are under 6 and would be happy to have more. These under 6's have a designated coach and we focus more on their skills and having fun.
