The first ever Olney Ladies 'Old Girls' Day took place last Saturday (4 August) and saw 15 players from the history of the squad re-emerge at Olney to re-live their glory days.
The day began with some competitive touch rugby, with captain Ali Ward and Jenny 'Crowsnest' Harris making an impression. The return of legendary players including Kat "ZinZan" left the current XV bewildered as they struggled to contain the onslaught. A very evenly matched game became even more competitive as the ladies slipped into full contact to the delight of the supporters. Excellent tries from Zinzan, Dawn Airton and Ali Ward took the old girls ahead - it was only a break from Current player Kerry James that made the game finish on an even keel.
Beers, drinking games, songs and stories of old times followed on, with a BBQ and plenty of comedy moments in the bar....Those who had come down for a quiet pint and to watch the England game were baffled to say the least, at the random bundling, dancing, hugging, drinking and wheelchair antics of the Old and New ladies. Once a rugby girl,.....always a rugby girl.....
