Priceless Mr A

Have you ever stopped to wonder what the state of the clubhouse and patio area is like after a weekend of rugby at Olney? Just take some senior games on a Saturday, add in a Mini & Junior footfall of hundreds on a Sunday morning followed by a Ladies game in the afternoon, and the end result is not always a pretty sight. There is regularly a lot of clearing up and cleaning to do ready for the following week.

Geoff Scott, fondly known as Mr Alfie, our April volunteer of the month, quietly takes on the role of keeping the outside of the clubhouse clean and tidy. Sometimes helped by Mrs A (Kay his wife), he cleans, litter picks, empties bins, sorts recycling along with a number of other jobs that all need doing.

Geoff has always had a love for rugby, both union and league (something to do with his Yorkshire roots). Moving down to the area for work reasons, some 25 to 30 years ago, he found himself living just round the corner from Olney Rugby Club. It didn’t take long for Geoff to pay a visit to see what was going on and it’s been his adopted club ever since.

For the last five years Geoff has been giving up his Mondays to keeping the patio and outside of the club ship shape ready for the week ahead. His value to the club should not be underestimated. His dedication, time and energy are an integral part of the day to day upkeep of the clubhouse and surrounds and makes a fundamental contribution to the club’s overall success.

Thank you Geoff for your hard work and support for Olney RFC.
