Milestone Moment for Olney's Colts

By Kath Middleditch

Olney Colts overturn Ampthill to gain title

“This is a fantastic moment for the club.” Coach, Mark Lay

For the first time in the club's 142-year history, its Colts side has won the East Midlands Divisional 1 League.

Olney's team beat a determined Ampthill side 42-5 in front of a home crowd, to win the title. Leading 28-5 at half time, the team gathered pace in the second half and recorded 14 unanswered points to claim the convincing win. Man of the match was fly half Ollie Betteridge.

Coach Mark Lay said: "This is a fantastic moment for the club. We have played 30 players to date in the league Colts games, which just goes to show how vibrant this section is. Winning the league is a great testament to the players and to Olney RFC."

The Colts side still has the challenge of progressing in the National Colts Cup, facing Old Northamptonians in the next round on 9 February.
