Australian family get their own 'personalised' kit

Olney shirts have travelled half way around the world to be proudly worn by members of the Olney family in Melbourne, Australia.

Aussie Rules player Liz Olney had been aware of our market town from a young age and in 2011, on a holiday to Europe, the Olney family visited the town and did some sightseeing. It was then they stumbled across Olney RFC and our unique colour scheme! Over the years Liz kept across club news on Facebook and was certain she'd visit again some day.

Liz says: "In January this year that is exactly what I did. I took the train to Bedford and then the bus to the town square outside the Bull. It was an effort but I was determined to get there! I got to the club just before the senior men were about to play. I noticed the merchandise and wanted to buy a few things for my family. I went to the bar and started a conversation with Bev who was extremely friendly and welcoming. She introduced me to Alec and 2 beanies, 2 polos and a pin were bought."

Mentioning she'd be keen on some kit, Alec made the arrangements and soon some cerise and french grey shirts were on their way to Australia!

Although not a rugby player, Liz's Dad Rob played the game in his youth and they enjoy watching rugby. Liz proudly sports her shirt at her Australian Football training sessions and gets lots of compliments. She says: "Everyone is very impressed that I have a personalised playing jersey! The beanie also keeps me very warm when the temperature drops."

Great to hear from you Liz, and please come and visit us again at Olney RFC!
