As the season kicks off, find out more about our Head Coach

7 things you might not know about our Head Coach, Phil Powell…

1. He rediscovered rugby at age 10 – after playing it in his early years he dabbled with diving, swimming and football before taking it up again when he moved to MK.
2. His Dad played rugby for the Navy – and Phil’s from a rugby loving family all of whom support Northampton Saints
3. He’s been involved with local rugby for a long time playing for Bletchley, Aylesbury, Old Northamptonians, Milton Keynes, Saracens school of rugby and Bucks and East Midlands. He’s also coached at Milton Keynes, Bedford Blues, Northampton Saints (Junior Academies), East Midlands (U17-U18), and Buckinghamshire.
4. He was born in Portsmouth, and lived in Cornwall before moving to Milton Keynes
5. He admires Jonny Wilkinson and Brian O’Driscoll, and also takes inspiration from Dan Carter and Jonathan Davies.
6. His nickname is J-Lo – down to his booty not his diva attitude(!)
7. His playing career highlight was winning the Oceanic Cup and Lewis Shield at Franklins Gardens

We’re sure his coaching career highlight will happen at Olney RFC! Thanks Phil for this insight and good luck for the season ahead.
