Jim Osborn, 22, has been named as Olney 1st XV's captain for this season. Jim is a well-known face at Olney, having started playing rugby at the club at five years old and turning out for teams every year since.
A front-row player, usually hooker, Jim will be leading from the front and says "My aim for this season is for a top three finish in our league. Promotion is the ultimate goal."
Although his rugby inspiration is former New Zealand international Jonah Lomu, (he even had a quiff in his hair to match his idol when he was growing up), Jim says that closer to home, Tom Salsbury helped him out throughout his playing years both as a coach and friend. "He taught me all I need to know about scrummaging, to get me to where I am now," Jim said.
Jim's proudest moments in rugby were leading his youth team to victory in the Alliance Cup and more recently winning the Lewis Shield. A clubman through and through, receiving his club blazer meant a lot to Jim, who says:"What I love about Olney is that we are like a family. Any new players are made welcome, and there are great friendships both on and off the pitch."
Congratulations Jim and all the best to you for the season ahead!
