The Big Floodlight Fundraiser

2 months ago By Kath Middleditch

New project to extend playing facilities

Olney RFC is embarking on an ambitious fundraising drive in its 140th year, raising money to extend its floodlights, opening up more training and playing space to its hundreds of rugby players of all ages.

Here's a guide to what the project is all about, and how you can get involved:

What's this about floodlights?
We want to install additional floodlights on the Rec at the far side of the second pitch, along the hedgerow line.

Why do we need them?
We want to give all our players safe training facilities; we've grown as a club and now regularly have hundreds of players using the pitches for playing and training, and there's real pressure on the floodlit space we already have. Installing extra lights will mean the second Rec pitch is safely lit for many more players to use. This will benefit not only senior sections but our junior teams too.

How much is it costing?
We need to raise £50,000 to cover the costs and are aiming to do this in our 140th year. You'll soon see a board up in the club showing how we are progressing with the fundraising drive.

What's going on with fundraising?
The main committee is organising a series of events throughout the season including:

  • An Auction of promises in March 2018
  • A series of Raffles
  • The 2018 May ball

We're also considering sponsor support and looking into grants and community awards.

How can I help?
We need everyone in the club to help us achieve our goal. As well as straightforward donations, there are lots of other ways you can help:

  • Get your section to organise a fundraising event or activity.
  • Volunteer to help organise one of the big ticket events with main committee
  • Investigate whether your employers offer match funding or would support our project

If you have any further questions please drop us a line at publicity@olneyrfc.co.uk and we'll do our best to answer them, and update this information article. If you'd like to get more involved in the project, or would like support to promote a fundraising activity please contact the Publicity Officer.
